Cheese & wine evening
About 30 people attended this event at the Balsam Centre.  First of all, we were shown slides of Nepal where Janet & Roger had been on holiday last Christmas.
During their visit they discovered that at the age of 15/16 children take what is called the school leaving certificate.  After this, most of the girls have to return home to help care for the family etc.  However, plans are afoot in the Phujel region of Nepal to open a senior school especially for girls, if ever the finances are raised.
Being moved by what they saw, Janet & Roger felt it right to ask our PCC if one of the charities we supported this year could be this project.  The PCC agreed, so we are currently raising monies to send to help with the building of the school.
When you realise that simply having a pencil is a huge thing to a child living in the hilly regions of Nepal you will understand that having these extra facilities is like having Christmas every day of the year!
The evening then continued with cheese and wine.  What wonderful cheese it was, too!

Mothers' Union
A wonderful afternoon was had by all who attended the Mary Sumner Celebrations on Saturday. It started with an interesting talk about Cucklington Parish Church given by Vivien Hutchings.  She was extremely well informed and we learnt a great deal about the church and St Barbara. This was followed by Evensong ably led by our curate, Steve.
Afterwards, we were given the most wonderful tea prepared by Gill, Yvonne and Joanna at Willow Farm, the home of Sue.  Joanna gave us a quiz she had cleverly prepared.  The winners received a box of Roses.  Very appropriate as all of the answers were names of flowers. Guess who won?

Carrington House
On the second Sunday of the month a few people from our church lead a friendly service at Carrington House.  It is well attended by 10-14 folk who appreciate a time of drawing close to God in prayer and singing.  Getting older and becoming infirm doesn't cut us off from God as each person is precious in His eyes and each life has a story.  We value the time we spend with these dear folk and thank the staff who enable us to meet there.
Below are a couple of pictures taken after this month's service.
