The Thursday 'Oasis of Peace'
A
significant number of people have come to value the Thursday communion
each week at 9.30am. Perhaps you haven't 'discovered' it yet?
Or, maybe, you haven't got round to it. If not, please do
give it a try - just come and drink in the peace of this half-hour
oasis.
The Linx ProjectThe
Linx programme employs 4 young Christian workers supported by the
churches in the area. Two of these are dedicated to work in our
local comprehensive schools and live in the town. "Dedicated
to promoting the knowledge of and demonstrating the practice of
Christian belief asmong all young people primarily through serving
secondary schools in Wincanton and Castle Cary."
St John's Church, Chingola, Zambia
Of
the 150 members in this congregation only 20 have full time employment.
Due to privatisation of the mines, many miners were made
redundant and there are no industries in the area. Many husbands
have had to seek work elsewhere but cannot afford to return home at the
weekends causing distress for their families and many beakdowns in
marriage. HIV AIDS is rampant in the area and the church is
setting up home bases care groups to assist those who are suffering.
The building of a senior school in NepalA senior school is to
be built in one of the hilly areas of Nepal called the Phujel region.
This is to help enable those aged 16+ to continue their studies.
At present girls of this age have to help at home and are unable
to continue their education. Simply owning a pencil in this
region is precious, so imagine what the building of a senior school
must mean to these people!
The Children's Society
The Church of England Children's Society is a charitable company whose objectives are:
to care for and support children and young people in need,
whatever their race, religion, language or culture, and to promote their physical, mental and emotional
development.
